Hello everyone! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season! We definitely did :)
Well the big news for this week is 2 parts....
1. LISA IS ON DATE TO BE BAPTIZED!!!!!!!
We met with Lisa this week again! She is sooo awesome! She has been coming to church for about a month strait now with her mom (she's a member of the neighboring ward). She is sooo curious about the church and has a ton of faith! She asks us questions pretty much the whole lesson and we just answer them and help her understand the gospel of Jesus Christ. We invited her to be baptized last week and she said yes. Then this week we talked with her about a date and she thinks February 25 is a good date! We are so excited for her!
2. I'M GETTING TRANSFERRED TO A NEW AREA!!!!
We were not expecting this at all! I thought for sure I was going to be staying in Mishawaka longer, but I guess my time here is done :( I am so sad to leave because we just saw a ton of the work take off! We are working with some amazing people here and Im really going to miss seeing them and teaching them and coming closer to their Heavenly Father. But I know that Sister Murray will take good care of them for me:)
I am being transferred to the Indy YSA (young single adult) ward. Its part of the IUPUI campus which is in White River! Its in the heart of the city! We're even right across from the Indianapolis Zoo! My new companion will be Sister Price, who only has 1 transfer left! I just barely know her but she is awesome and Im excited to be her companion!
As for this week...not much else happened! Just normal missionary work. Visiting people, knocking on doors, eating lots of unhealthy food, trying not to freeze, attempting to reduce the amount of animal hair on our clothes.......ya know, just the usual!
Hope you all have a wonderful 2017! Love you!!

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas!!!
This is gonna be short! Sorry!
Tuesday we met with a new investigator names Patrick and taught him the first lesson! He is awesome and wants to be baptized! Hopefully we can set a date with him this week!
It was verryyy cold and snowy all week! But we are surviving! I made my first snowman and had my first snowball fight!!! It was awesome! I love the snow but hate the cold...kinda a weird combo.
Thursday we had exchanges with South Bend! It was awesome! We met some super cool people! And we got suck in snow after avoiding a car crash! But dont worry! We are fine:)
Friday we basically shoveled peoples driveway/walkways all day long! It was super fun! And one of the members invited us in to have hot chocolate:)
We sang in a Christmas Concert at the church last night! It was awesome! And we did really well! We also had our "investigator" Shania at church! She is so cute! She looked at me as we were passing the bread and says "whats this?!" really loud! So I explain it all to her. Then at the end we sing The First Noel and thats her favorite song so she BELTS it out!! We were all dying laughing!
Well happy holidays! Love you all!

Yaayy it snowed a ton! It is sooooo beautiful! It dropped about 6 inches just yesterday! I got to experience shoveling snow for the first time and driving in it (not me...a member had to give us a ride) and sliding! Lots of firsts on the mission :)
This week was crazy busy! Ill give you a quick low-down!
Tuesday: We volunteered at Habitat for Humanities Restore! It was soo fun and they were so glad that we came to help! Spent most of the day in Granger trying to find new investigators! Then had a lesson with Jim! He acutally knows a lot about the church and believes a lot of it! Then in the evening we saw Kelly who is struggling to forgive some people in her life. We had SUCH a spiritual lesson with her to help her understand how she can forgive:)
Wednesday: We volunteered at the food pantry! We were on dish duty! It was pretty gross but we managed to have fun with it:) Then we saw some less actives, who we LOVVEE!!! We get to work with some of the most amazing people! Then we had dinner with Patience and her family. Patience was just baptized in July. Shes from Liberia so she made us African food!! It was soooooo good!!! I was sooo stuffed afterwards! And then she made homemade donuts!
Thursday: We got up at 4:45 am in order to get ready and drive to Indianapolis! We had a big Special Zone Conference with Elder Dyches from the Quorum of the 70. We had an amazing day with him and I learned sooo much! After it was over we stuck around to help, did some planning and then went to the temple!! It was amazing! We also spent the night in Fishers because we had another meeting the next day!
Friday: We had another meeting with Elder Dyches. This one was with the mission leadership (zone leaders and sister training leaders). And this one was even better! He is the coolest guy and definitely knew what each of us needed to hear! After it was over we made the long journey back home! (I slept most of the way haha)
Saturday: We had stake choir practice in the morning! We are doing a special Christmas concert Sunday evening (that ended up getting postponed to next week because of the snow). We are doing some songs from The Messiah and some other christmas songs/carols. Then we had a really cool lesson with our investigator Randy at the church! He is such a funny guys and just has such a pure desire to know God. We also had a lesson with Shania. She is Kellys daughter and is 8 but hasnt ever been to church and wants to learn so she can decide if she wants to be baptized. We taught her about God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost! She is soo smart and picked up on it really quickly! That evening we visited with Karen, who recently moved in. Shes awesome! And she came to church again this week:) Its soo good to see her there:)
Sunday: We woke up to a ton of snow! Our cars got "grounded" (which means we cant drive them) so we had to organize rides to get to church. We had nothing to do in the morning so we just started shoveling the neighbors' driveways and sidewalks. Church was great! Shania came! And she said she loved it! We got to go to primary for a part of church and you better know that we gave it ALL we got when we sang "Jesus wants me for a sunbeam" and "Once there was a snowman"!!
I learned a ton this week! But mostly that the smallest things we do in life can go really far! So never think that what youre doing for good is ever going to waste!
Love you all!

Heyyyy everyone!! I figured since I keep doing short emails that I owe you a good long one all about Mishakawa!
This week was a pretty solid week! Lots of good and some bad but thats just the life of a missionary:)
-funny- So on Thursday I had to get an ultrasound because I've been having stomach pains...thats not the funny part though. After we got done at the hospital we went to the food pantry with the other missionaries and they asked how it went and Sister Murray says, "ITS A GIRL!" hahaha it was so funny! (p.s. the ultrasound came out normal! So that's good:) )
-good- We met a super cool guy names Randy! We knocked on his door and shared #lighttheworld with him and we wanted to show him the actual video but he doesnt have internet! So we set up a time to come back with a member that had a smart phone so we could show it to him! We went back Friday and he loved the video! We also taught him a part of the Restoration lesson and he loved talking about it! Hopefully we can see him again and keep teaching him! He's the first new investigator we've had in a while so it's super exciting for us!
-bad- We got dropped by 3 investigators! (Dropped means that they no longer want to meet with us/are not interested.) But I guess you win some and you loose some!
-fun- We had exchanges with the Elkhart sisters on Saturday! I got to go with Sister Dawes again (my former companion and trainee) but this time she came to Mishawaka! It was a really fun day! We got to help decorate a Christmas tree! We also tracted and actually talked to some people who were interested! We saw some less actives too. It was a pretty solid day! And its always fun to be back with a former companion :)
-out of the ordinary- We also had our ward Christmas party Friday night! It was sooooo cool! They made it look like Bethlehem and we had "authentic" food from the time and there was a live Nativity! We also got to dress up as the angles! It was a really cool party and helped us all remember the true reason behind Christmas!
-work- The work here is finally picking up! We have been doing a lot of door-knocking and we have a goal to work with the members more in order to find people to teach! Our teaching pool is pretty slim right now and we KNOW that there are people out there ready to hear the Gospel and we just need to find them! So we are working really hard lately to try and find those people!
-spiritual- I have been LOVING the #LightTheWorld Christmas video! (if you havent seen it go on mormon.org and watch it!) It is sooo awesome and we are trying to do something everyday to be like the Savior! I love it so much because it reminds me of all the amazing things the Savior did but it shows that they arent just things that the Savior can do...we can do it too!!! I love serving others and this is just another excuse to get out there, forget about myself, and do things for other people!
Well I hope you all have a wonderful week and dont forget to think about the real reason for the season:)

our pajama party district meeting
Hey everyone! Happy (late) Thanksgiving! Hope you all had a good one!
I only have a bit of time this week, so here are highlights:
Tuesday was transfers and I have a new comp! Her name is Sister Murray and shes from Ephraim UT! Shes super awesome!
Wednesday we helped at a food pantry that made a ton of thanksgiving food to serve! We helped serve it! It was an awesome experience!
Thanksgiving was awesome! We were just in members' homes all day! We are lots of food and played tons of games:)
Friday the new Christmas Initiative for the church came out! Its #LightTheWorld! And its AWESOMEE!!!! If you haven't watched it go watch it RIGHT NOW!!! And it even has a cool service-centered advent calendar that goes with it! We have been sharing it with EVERYONE! They love it!
Saturday was a lot of searching for "unknown" members and tracting! Just lots of work!
Its been great here in Mishawaka! Its starting to get cold so we have to bundle up to go outside! Hopefully we can get some snow soon!! We are having a really hard time finding people to teach, it seems like most people are happy with where theyre at and the church they go to! So we are working with a lot of members that are struggling and having a hard time coming to church.
Have a great week! Love you all!

*my new comp sister murray!
Hello everyone! Thank you for all the birthday wishes:) This week was a pretty solid week! Here are the highlights:
Monday: We went to Elkhart for pday! It was awesome! I love going down there and seeing all my peeps and playing games with them and stuff:) It was a fun day!
Tuesday: Zone Conference! President and the AP's came up and we had a long meeting together! It was awesome! I was so uplifted and more excited to do the work! And I had to give my first Zone Conference training! It was a little nerve racking but it went well :) We taught about how to study effectively and prepare to teach investigators.
Wednesday: I was sick all morning :( so I slept! It was good to get caught up on some sleep! Later in the afternoon we helped someone paint and visited some people. After dinner we saw an awesome member of our ward and she shared her conversion story with us and it was sooooo cool! I love hearing peoples conversion story! Its amazing what God can do in our lives!
Thursday: Best part about today was eating Nutella cheesecake!!! But we will get to that in a sec…We stopped by a less active member. She is amazing! We visit her every week and she is like a mom to us :) She is struggling a lot so we are doing all we can to help her and her family. We brought the Relief Society president with us so they could meet and it was PERFECT! They became friends right away! We got to share a message as well and you could tell that it truly touched her :) Its amazing what the Spirit can do in a lesson that we can't! After we met up with some members and got desserts (aka nutella cheesecake) and it was quite an experience!!!
Friday: Today was a pretty crummy day. It seemed like everything went wrong. BUUTTTT we had a cool experience. We tried to visit someone but they weren't home (of course) and as we were walking back to the car we saw an old lady across the street trying to put up some holiday decorations so we went and helped her! She was sooo happy about it and it was the best feeling to help her:)
Saturday! Was my birthday! And it was a WHITE birthday! My first one ever! It snowed basically all day! We had a fun day filled with lots and lots of food, some service, visiting less actives and an AMAZING lesson with a new investigator! We met up with her at the church and gave her a tour and taught her some basic things and she is SOOO ready to hear the gospel and we are so excited to start working with her! She is amazing! We love her so much already!
Sunday: We had an awesome time at church and some of the less actives we've been working with came to church! It was awesome! We taught gospel principles and had a bajilllion meetings. That night we had a fireside called "Why I Believe" and our recent convert Patience spoke! She is so amazing and has the strongest testimony ever!
Transfer news: I will be staying in Mishawaka but my companion Sister Miles is leaving:( we are super sad about that but I am excited to meet my new companion! Her name is Sister Murray!
Have a great week! Love you all!
-sister emily griffiths
Hello everyone! Hope you had a great week! Because we did!!! It was an amazing week and we saw so many miracles and blessings! But I dont have enough time to talk about all of them, so here are just a few.....
-funny- We had a sisters pday last monday and hung out. We were walking around and attempting to take selfies and this old last asked us what we were doing out on a monday and thought we were ditching school!!! Hahahaha it was so funny! I guess we look like high schoolers??
-good- We did some less active finding and we talked to a bunch of people and they actually want us to come back!!!! We are so excited to meet them this week!
-bad- We didnt have any investigators at church this week :( .....buuutttttt we had a ton of the less actives we have been working with there!!! It was soo cool to see them all there!
-fun- WE HAD AMAZING CHOCOLATE CAKE!!! It was from a member that had us over for dinner!
-out of the ordinary- I had exchanges with Sister Dawes (my last companion) in Elkhart/Goshen (my last area)!!!! It was soooo much fun! And we got to see one of the investigators we started teaching there and she is finally progressing and reading the Book of Mormon! Its awesome!
-spiritual- I have grown such a big testimony on the Book of Mormon! Everytime I read it its exactly what I need and I just receive so much happiness from reading it and following what is asks us to do!
Have a great week! Love you all!!
-sister emily griffiths
p.s. its my birthday on saturday :)
-funny- On Tuesday we went over to a members house to help with some gardening and other yard work! Afterwards they fed us dinner:) During dinner the husband was being really funny. When he got up to get dessert he started flickering the lights on and off and the wife asked why he was doing that and he said "Arent you seeing my S.O.S?? I need help!!!" Hahaha it was sooo funny! We were dying! That family is sooo much fun :)
-good- On Thursday we got to go on exchanges with the sisters in Warsaw! I got to be with Sister Gibbs!!! She was my trainer (first companion) and it was cool to be with her again this week! It was just like old times:) Not only was it fun to be back with her but we had a really successful day too! All of our plans went according to plan!!! And that hardly EVER happens!! It was a wonderful day and gave me another boost to work hard and keep working hard!
-bad- There was nothing really bad that happened this week! We definitely had lots of miracles!!! So I will just tell you about another cool experience! On Saturday we were finally back in Mishawaka after 2 1/2 days of being away. That morning we decided to do some service for the community! We rounded up some rakes and went to a neighborhood and just started knocking on doors asking if people wanted us to rake their leaves!! It worked really well and we got to talk to some really cool people! Thats definitely one way that we can meet people and leave a lasting impression of who Mormons are!
-fun- Friday was MLC (missionary leadership council). This is when we get to meet together as Zone Leaders and Sister Training Leaders with our mission president to talk about the mission and plan how we can help the missionaries and the work in our mission! It was a great day and we accomplished a lot together! I also love getting to see President and Sister Carlson more often! They are awesome and do sooo much for us!
-out of the ordinary- This weekend at church was Stake Conference for the South Bend area! And we (missionaries) got to sing! Saturday night was a missionary choir and we sang 2 songs. Then Sunday morning a bunch of the missionaries joined with the Stake Choir and sang this amazing song called Prince Of Peace! It was an amazing experience and I loved it :)
-spiritual- We got the chance (at MLC) to see a preview of the Christmas Initiative that the church is putting out at the end of the month! They always do a video along with a message every Easter and Christmas about Christ! This years video and message is soooo powerful and I am so excited to get to share the message of Christ with other through this special video! While we were watching the video I just was so overwhelmed with the Spirit and how much God really does love each one of us and we can really help others come to know that love too just by our simple actions and example :)
I love you all! Have a great week!!!
-sister emily griffiths
Hey everyone! Hope you have a great halloween!!
-good- We had a zone meeting this week! This is when the zone (16 missionaries) get together and us (the STLs) and the Zone Leaders give some trainings and we all set some goals together! It was awesome and sooo spiritual! We learned so much!
-bad- Well this isnt necessarily bad but probably more good! A girl in our ward is leaving for her mission to Virginia tomorrow and we had to say goodbye to her yesterday at church! We have gotten really close to her because we have taken her to lessons with us and given her advice! She is amazing and we will really miss seeing her but I know what she is doing is the best thing ever!!!
-fun- We had the ward Halloween party on Saturday! Sister Miles and I dressed up as 80's girls! Everyone loved our costumes:) It was so much fun and a great turn out! We even got a purse full of candy!
-out of the ordinary- Exchanges! We did 2 exchanges this week with the sisters in the area:) First we had one with South Bend and I got to spend the day there! It was really fun, but very rainy! Then we went with the Elkhart sisters. I was back with my wonderful MTC companion Sister Ostermiller! I lovwe that girl:) We had a successful day too!
-spiritual- While we were on exchanges with the Elkhart sisters, Sister Ostermiller and I did some surprise service for someone in their ward! We went and raked ALL the leaves in their front yard! Its the first time I've ever done that because, of course, I grew up in Cali and we dont have fall leaves there! It was soooo much fun! But while we were doing it the husband came out and saw us and was sooooo happy and surprised! His face lit up! He even invited us in and gave us cookies! I definitely learned this week that a little loving service can go a long way and really can make an impact on peoples lives:) I know that as we continue to be like the Savior and serve others that we will see a difference made in the world and we will be happier too!!
Have a great and a happy halloween!!! Love you all!
love, sister griffiths
Well! It was just another week!
-funny- I HIT MY HUMP DAY!!!!! Thats missionary lingo for halfway mark. On Thursday was my ( month mark which means I've been out here half of the time! Its crazy because it has gone by sooo fast! The funny part was that I got a package from my family with the randomest things ive ever seen! But it was fun to open and play with all the weird toys :)
-good- We got to help build a house this week! We didnt have much success with the work this week but we always love doing service:) A program called Habitat For Humanities helps build houses for families so we got to go and help build the garage this week! We put up the 4 walls and some of the support:) It was really fun and we learned a lot!
-bad- We got a flat tire on Friday! There was a piece of a razor blade in it :( We made the Elders come over and change it for us and then we had to drop it off later at the car place to get fixed so we were stuck walking for the afternoon! It definitely made us grateful for having a car!
-fun- We made a fort!! And we slept in it! It was pretty fun :)
-out of the ordinary- We had transfers on tuesday! We had to go down to Indy even though we werent changing because Sister Miles had a dentist appointment! But it was super fun on the ride down and awesome to see everyone there!
-spiritual- This week I have really gained a stronger testimony of the scriptures! I love reading them sooo much! They give me so much happiness and help me learn soo many things! There are so many life lessons that we can learn from the scriptures and I just love that they are written directly to us to help us learn ad get through life:)
Love you all!
