Hey everyone! Hope you have a great halloween!!
-good- We had a zone meeting this week! This is when the zone (16 missionaries) get together and us (the STLs) and the Zone Leaders give some trainings and we all set some goals together! It was awesome and sooo spiritual! We learned so much!
-bad- Well this isnt necessarily bad but probably more good! A girl in our ward is leaving for her mission to Virginia tomorrow and we had to say goodbye to her yesterday at church! We have gotten really close to her because we have taken her to lessons with us and given her advice! She is amazing and we will really miss seeing her but I know what she is doing is the best thing ever!!!
-fun- We had the ward Halloween party on Saturday! Sister Miles and I dressed up as 80's girls! Everyone loved our costumes:) It was so much fun and a great turn out! We even got a purse full of candy!
-out of the ordinary- Exchanges! We did 2 exchanges this week with the sisters in the area:) First we had one with South Bend and I got to spend the day there! It was really fun, but very rainy! Then we went with the Elkhart sisters. I was back with my wonderful MTC companion Sister Ostermiller! I lovwe that girl:) We had a successful day too!
-spiritual- While we were on exchanges with the Elkhart sisters, Sister Ostermiller and I did some surprise service for someone in their ward! We went and raked ALL the leaves in their front yard! Its the first time I've ever done that because, of course, I grew up in Cali and we dont have fall leaves there! It was soooo much fun! But while we were doing it the husband came out and saw us and was sooooo happy and surprised! His face lit up! He even invited us in and gave us cookies! I definitely learned this week that a little loving service can go a long way and really can make an impact on peoples lives:) I know that as we continue to be like the Savior and serve others that we will see a difference made in the world and we will be happier too!!
Have a great and a happy halloween!!! Love you all!

-funny- Yesterday (Sunday) after church we went over to a recently baptized member of the church! Her name is Patience but she has a younger sister who's 3 and she is the CUTEST thing ever! We started singing Frozen for her and she has watched the videos so many times that she can do all the dances/hand motions that they do in the movie! It was sooo cute!
-good- We found a new investigator!!!! We went to a neighborhood where a member lives and started knocking on some doors! The next door neighbor of the member talked to us! Her name is Wanda and shes super awesome and nice! She also wanted us to come back and teach her more! We are really excited to see her this week :) Wish us luck!
-bad- We found out earlier this week that a member from the ward, that we see often, husband died. We were so sad to hear the news! He has been sick for a while but he was the sweetest old man and we always talked to him too when we would go over and visit. That was our bad news from the week :(
-fun- I burned a shirt!! It is tradition as a missionary, once you hit your halfway mark that you burn a shirt! Another elder in our district hit his halfway mark this week too so we burned them together! It was kinda scary but definitely fun :)
-out of the ordinary- We have been going to stake choir practice for the last few weeks! It has been really fun! They are low on numbers so they recruited all of us missionaries! In 2 weeks we have stake conference where we will be performing! We are singing a wonderful song about Christ and I just love it sooo much!
-spiritual- So the "4th missionary" is a talk given by an old mission president that we have! Its an amazing (and long) talk! It talks about 4 different types of missionaries: disobedient and goes home, not super obedient but still a missionary, obedient but doing it because he has to, and the full Christ-like willing missionary. The difference between the 3rd and 4th is simply giving up your will to the Lord and doing everything that we do because we truly love God. It was something that really hit me this week and has pushed me to be a better missionary and doing everything, every day, for the right reasons!
Love you all!

Well! It was just another week!
-funny- I HIT MY HUMP DAY!!!!! Thats missionary lingo for halfway mark. On Thursday was my ( month mark which means I've been out here half of the time! Its crazy because it has gone by sooo fast! The funny part was that I got a package from my family with the randomest things ive ever seen! But it was fun to open and play with all the weird toys :)
-good- We got to help build a house this week! We didnt have much success with the work this week but we always love doing service:) A program called Habitat For Humanities helps build houses for families so we got to go and help build the garage this week! We put up the 4 walls and some of the support:) It was really fun and we learned a lot!
-bad- We got a flat tire on Friday! There was a piece of a razor blade in it :( We made the Elders come over and change it for us and then we had to drop it off later at the car place to get fixed so we were stuck walking for the afternoon! It definitely made us grateful for having a car!
-fun- We made a fort!! And we slept in it! It was pretty fun :)
-out of the ordinary- We had transfers on tuesday! We had to go down to Indy even though we werent changing because Sister Miles had a dentist appointment! But it was super fun on the ride down and awesome to see everyone there!
-spiritual- This week I have really gained a stronger testimony of the scriptures! I love reading them sooo much! They give me so much happiness and help me learn soo many things! There are so many life lessons that we can learn from the scriptures and I just love that they are written directly to us to help us learn ad get through life:)
Love you all!
Well this week was a pretty bummer week. Nothing worked out in our plans and it was just supperrrr long:(
But we did have a few funny/miracle moments!!!
Wednesday night we had an appointment that fell through and all of our backup plans didn't happen either. So we decided to contact this referral that we received online for someone who wanted to meet with us. We met her and she is AWESOME! She is going through a really hard time in life and really needs some support and help and its really cool that she turned to Christ for it and that we are the ones that get to meet with her and help her feel the joy that comes from the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Right after that we also stopped by a potential investigator, Scott. Ive never met him but Sister Miles always talks about him and I can see why! He is the coolest guy ever! He has been reading the Book of Mormon and is still so interested in learning more! I cant wait to go over and see him again!
Also on Thursday we went tracting (on Griffith street) and met this really cool lady names Lisa! She has a few kids and told us that it was funny we came to her door because just the night before she was talking to her husband how she wanted to start getting into a church because she never grew up religious and she wants her kids to! Coincidence? I think NOT!!!
Finally yesterday, Sunday, we fasted and finally had some success and miracles! It made us think of a quote from The Best 2 Years (a funny movie about mormon missionaries) where the "nerdy/country" missionary tells his companion "Elder! I know why we aint been havin any success! We need to FAST!"
Well it was a slow week but we had small miracles nonetheless! Also, we got our transfer calls on Saturday and Sister Miles and I will be staying together here in Mishawaka!
Have a great week! Love you all!
Hello everyone!!! This week was great! And cold:( Its definitely fall time now!
Well, like always, I don't have a ton of time to write this. But I will keep the same theme of last time!!
-funny- So on Tuesday we had dinner with this SUPER awesome family from the ward. They have 7 kids and their 8th on the way! So you could definitely imagine how crazy it was there! But while the elders were sharing a spiritual thought the dog came in the room and the oldest son (14 yrs old) grabs the dos (a really big golden retriever) and puts him on his lap and holds him like a baby. This dog just totally swallowed up the kid and it was just so funny to see! We couldn't stop laughing in the middle of the lesson (oops! sorry elders!)
-good- WE HAVE A NEW GATOR! (thats what we call an investigator for short) We texted a bunch of random phone numbers we had in our phone last week and a couple were interested in meeting, including this guy named Timmy. So we went over and taught him the Restoration lesson on Thursday and he LOVED it! As soon as we finished reciting Joseph Smith's First Vision to him, he looked at us and without hesitation said "I believe that! I completely believe that happened!" It was amazing!
-bad- On Wednesday we went on exchanges with the Elkhart 1 sisters (my old comp, sis dawes and her new comp sis doyle!) That wasnt the bad part...because it was actually really fun and cool to see some of the members and investigators I was just working with a few weeks ago:) While we were tracting we met this lady and talked to her on her doorstep for like 30 minutes. Towards the end we noticed Sister Doyle was wobbly. We held her shoulder and then SHE PASSED OUT! Right there on the doorstep! I caught her and laid her down and a minute later she woke up and was fine! It was pretty scary though! Ive never seen someone pass out before! But all was well and she didnt die:) Plus we got a return appointment with that lady! So it was worth it!
-fun- So we made pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting one night during our dinner break and then Saturday night we dropped them off at some members houses by ding dong ditching them! It was sooo fun! (Plus we didnt get caught)
-out of the ordinary- We got to teach seminary on friday! The seminary teacher asked us a few weeks ago and we've been so excited to! It was really fun and I was surprised how awake they were at 6:30 in the morning! I guess it was friday so thats why. We taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ and then had donuts after!
-spiritual- Of course this is going to come from the thoughts spoken at General Conference this weekend! (If you didnt get a chance to watch, do it!
I really loved how the Saturday Evening one was so focused on missionary work! As a missionary now, I have really learned the valuable truth that US MISSIONARIES CANNOT DO THIS WORK ALONE!!! We need all the help we can get! So I challenge all of you to be involved with inviting people to come unto Christ! And more importantly, help yourself come unto Christ!
Love you all! Have a wonderful week!
