This week was great! Like the subject says, it was full of birthdays and sick days!
Wednesday was Sister Jones' Birthday! yaayy!!! It was so much fun and we basically did little celebrating all week! Tuesday night we took her out for pizza! Then on Wednesday we had Root Beer floats after District Meeting, got hot chocolate at Starbucks, and went out to dinner at a mexican place!
Well, here's some other highlights from our investigators for the week!
Thinh: We taught him again on Sunday! He is doing well and he wants to believe in God and Jesus Christ but he is conflicted because he doesn't want to go against what his family believes. We talked a lot about faith and how faith is not just believing but its also DOING. He is leaving for about a month on vacation, so we won't see him for a while but he still texts us to check in!
Andre: Andre is greaatt!!!! We had a lesson with him this week and just tried to address some of his concerns. We read Alma 17 together and he loves the story! But he was also able to connect to the message of the story and apply it to his life! He has been doing GREAT on praying, reading the Book of Mormon and coming to church! He is progressing so much and has a desire to believe and learn more!
Jose: This week we didn't get caught in a rain storm! Yay! But we did have an AMAZING lesson with him on Wednesday! (Sister Jones said it was the best bday gift ever!) He reported that he read EIGHT CHAPTERS of the Book of Mormon! WOW! And he had a lot of questions about it, so we talked about that for a while. Then we taught him about the Plan of Salvation! Every single step of the Plan of Salvation blew his mind! It was so funny because we would lay out another piece of the picture (we have little pictures to help explain the concepts) and explain it and he would just pause and say "Woah! Ok, give me a second to process this." And we would sit in silence for what felt like hours and then he would ask questions or comment on it or make connections to other things we have taught him. It was so cool to see the Spirit working on him and confirming all of this was true. He didn't doubt it! He said he just needed to process it all and that he was going to be praying a LOT this week! But it is good! We are so amazed at his desire!
And some fun things that happened this week!
Volleyball: We played volleyball last saturday for pday and it was sooooo much fun! I missed it a lot! Luckily one of the elders is really good at it so he makes me RUN! It was a good workout that I haven't had in a while!
FHE: Monday night we went on another hike at McCormicks creek with a bunch of people from church! It was so fun! This time we DIDNT get lots, luckily!
Sick days: Thursday and Friday Sister Jones was pretty sick so we just kinda laid around. Thursday we were at home all day and she slept most of the day while I tried to keep myself busy. Then on Friday she REFUSED to stay home so we just sat around at the institute building and relaxed and studied:)
Last Sunday I was asked to give a talk at church! The topic was Using the Power of the Atonement in our Daily Lives! It was so enlightening to study out that topic all week and learn so much more about Christ and His Atonement! One thing that really stuck out to me and has hit me hard these last few weeks is the idea of His Grace. Sometimes we think of grace as: if I do my best, He will make up the rest. But that's not true! He doesn't make UP the difference, He makes ALL the difference! He paid for everything! We are not only saved by His Grace, but we can be CHANGED by it. So, are we?? "For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father." (Mosiah 3:19, in the Book of Mormon) Are we doing all we can to turn away from our selfish natural tendencies? Are we seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit? Are we saints (a sinner that keeps of trying)? I know that if we do this in our life that God promises to send us light, peace and joy!
I love you all! Hope you have an amazing week!!!!
Love, Sister Griffiths
